Our History
A group of sport-loving people hailing from Kerala, the tiny little southern state of India, settled in and around Hamilton, Ontario got together in 2001 and thought about the ways to promote a healthier life style and relationship among the members of their community. Kairali Sports club of Hamilton-Burlington came into existence as a result of this thought process. This was a dream come true for all sports loving malayalees in and around Hamilton after several years of attempt and planning. On January 24th, 2002 we started playing badminton and volleyball at Bennetto Recreation Centre, Hamilton.
A goal was set by the founders, Davis Kalathil, Sabu Joseph, Babuji Philip & Andrews Koshy of this non-profit organization, to promote physical activity and competitive sports among Malayalees and their future generations.
An annual tournament was started in 2003 for the purpose of promoting badminton and volleyball, the two very popular indoor games among the people of Kerala. Also to promote harmony and true sportsmanship between the neighbouring Malayallee communities by bringing them under one umbrella on an exciting and fun filled day.
The tournament was named “Kairali Ever Rolling Trophy Tournament” and is held on the second weekend of May every year.
It is open to all Malayalees dwelling in Canada. Each year the tournament is hosted by different Registered Non-profit Sports Clubs in and around Ontario including Hamilton, Etobicoke, Brampton, Markham and Scarborough.
The initial idea and foundation of this tournament, which has now become a very important annual event in the life of Malayalees in Ontario was laid by the selfless efforts of the members of Kairali Sports Club Hamilton.
The co-operation and support of all of the sports loving participants from all over Ontario make this tournament an auspicious occasion and a grand event not to miss.
This annual event would not have been made possible without many of our financial supporters over the past ten years.
We would like to express our gratitude and thanks to each and every one of you for your generous support, especially Tom Varughese of Admiral Tours who has supported as a grand sponsor at several years including the first tournament in year 2003.
